Sewangi Traditional Shipyard is in Sewangi Island Village, Alalak District, Barito Kuala Regency This place is 4 km away from Kembang Monkey Island by engine boat or called by locals “Klotok”. This island formed from deposition process of Barito River delta resulting a bar (island in the middle of the river) and the estuary of the Barito River, a tributary of the Martapura River. This island was known as a shipyard center even before independence era. Alalak Island and Sewangi Island was included in the Port Area plan at the end of the Banjar war around 1905, because of its very strategic geographical location, which is Barito River, and close to raw materials resources from Central Kalimantan region, including Kapuas.
