The Long Nose Monkey Sanctuary is in Marabahan Baru Village, Anjir Muara District, Barito Kuala Regency. It’s 6 km away from Sewangi Traditional Shipyard by engine boat or “Klotok”. The origin of island name which is formed from Barito River delta deposits was from the name of many birds that can be found on the island, then locals recognized the island as Curiak Island. This bird is widely known as the Gray Cinenen (Orthotomus rupiceps) or Ashy Tailorbird, where Banjarese call it the Curiak bird. Curiak Island is part of the Long Nose Monkey Research Station which was inaugurated on June 5 2018 and managed by the Indonesian Bekantan Friends Foundation (SBI) intended to be a study and research center, as well as cultivation of conservationbased sustainable tourism development. At this location tourists will be able to find long nose Monkeys (Bekantan) which have become the Mascot of South Kalimantan. In addition, tourists can also feel the atmosphere of staying in the mangrove area with adequate facilities.
